10 questions to ask yourself before signing a contract.

  1. What conditions and expectations do this contract oblige me to long-term?
  2. Is this contract fair to my side of the equation in terms of personal and financial interests?
  3. Am I at ease with the overall ethics of this contract?
  4. What are the short- and long-term plans and implications of the contract?
  5. Do I have a clear mind or a temperament of desperation at the time of entertaining contract terms?
  6. Is this contract heavily one-sided? Do the terms that apply to me/my side represent something I would be comfortable giving another person I respect?
  7. Am I able to fulfill the demands of the contract with integrity?
  8. Am I able to compromise on the contract terms without compromising my end goal? Is there room for future independence and renegotiation?
  9. Is the contract dynamic enough to protect me from the unknown that is unknown? Do I see potential blind spots in the amendment clauses of my contract?
  10. Do I respect the party I am in a contract with?
