In 2023
My name is still Steve
My parents have made sure their children have the knowledge to know how to be happy
My dad knows I’m smart
He says I may even be smarter
But he has the wisdom
To make it a point to make sure my intelligence didn’t backfire
I’ve been wired by them both
To make my own decisions
To own my decisions
To take accountability for them all
To listen to their clear directions or not
Making my own knots in this life
Is my individual issue to untangle
My parents have given clear instructions on how to carry our family’s mantle
A candle
A light
In the darkness
I’ll take flight
While my companions
Sleep at night
I’m up working on my craft
Harder
In spite
The spite of envy
That surrounds
Will always be heard in surround sound
But will never be listened to
Or taken in
But I observe on my mount
Maintained is maintenance
Restrained is heaven sent
Preparation is excellence
Good better best
I’ve never let it rest
Till my good was better and my better became
The best.
