Dear children of today…
It’s going to be a hard road, but a journey of sacrifice will always remain more valuable than you can see in the moment.
Below is an email I received today about a Fortune 500 company I’ve worked with (never for) since I was 22 years old. To respect the privacy of the business I’ve replaced their company name, identifying information, and the names of the individuals referenced. In no way, shape, or form do I share this for any other reason — either in scale or, specifically, in scope — than to share a factual, firsthand account directly from the point of view of the corporate executives that worked for me.
Before sharing this, I’m grateful for all experiences like this because they have afforded me the opportunity to have the option of fully retiring by the time I was 33 years old. Because I’ve been raised to have the pursuit of an active mind I did not choose that option. But I am and have always been grateful to be in the position of having that option nonetheless. There is always a positive in every reason (since everything happens for a reason).
To the average person who was not there, this may be hard to imagine, and this is why I tried to summarize the sequence of events and attached supporting documentation of your work, which doesn’t reflect all your work while at the Company.
