Don’t assume in general terms. But if you do, assume this.
Assume that your communication will be received emotionally, no matter its syntax. I not only learned this the hard way, I learned it the fast way by having the courage to be myself in all circumstances, no matter the circumstance. What this taught me (besides everything) are a few key things I learned to learn. This is why I’ve been able to teach to learn at this point in my life. At this juncture, I take primary responsibility for what others hear. Doing so means I have to understand not just what and/or how I’m communicating but what and/or how the recipients receive the communication. The recipients are anyone external that I have to share with through language. Similar to how a sound device communicates to a stereo power amplifier which, in turn, communicates with a speaker. The speaker shapes the sound and curtails itself to the shape and sound of the room, which affects the way one hears the sound, the music, and the song. My spectrum analyzer is what I’ve been missing most of my life and recently attained while making the daily effort to maintain. My spectrum analyzer has given me the capability to manage my expectations of people and their understanding while fully understanding that, while we are all emotion-based listeners and learners, there is a spectrum.
