Mom and Dad: it’s all your fault.

It’s your fault I know how to think.
I wear my smile like a mink.
A coat to keep me warm
In this cold world.
It can be like sewage.
Depending on your mind and how it’s set
It can be a sink
To wash your hands clean of its mess.
If one doesn’t spend time with themselves
It won’t hesitate to allow you to sink.
It’s not about good or bad
But rather, what you allow to make you sad.
What one allows to make them is what one allows to make them.
I define me.
Nobody else.
My body is my issue.
Yet time is an issue we all
Must subscribe to.
The two of you made sure to guide me from zero.
You are not my heroes
But rather, my guides.
My guides to the joy I feel.
I feel so much inside.
To control this emotion
I work every day to make sure I abide
By all you both taught me
About knowing oneself.
To not allow fear to come in disguise.
“Don’t be timid,” my Mom says and does.
“Don’t be rigid,” my Dad displays just because.
That is the way my parents were designed
So they designed their children
Like an experienced architect
Does with pride
Detail
Efficient observation
And most importantly
Consideration.
You made sure I am my own hero.
You would stop at nothing to make sure I had the best.
It’s your fault I continue to pass my test.
These tests of life.
These tests of strife.
I have a clear aim
And I will shoot with precision.
That’s why I’m one of the most precise.
I’ve toiled upward
