The qualification for what makes an individual great will always be subjective in most ways except for two:

  1. their ability to posses the ego it requires to win; and
  2. their inability to allow their ego to get in the way of their empathy.

The list of individuals in which this duality exists in very short. Sir Lewis Hamilton is on that list. I don’t claim to know how many are on this list, how they are ranked, where they are ranked, or what set of individuals posses the power to determine the beginning, middle, and end of the list. But, like corporate conglomerates all over the world, there is a literal, unspoken list from which the senior executives are chosen. When one earns the consideration of that list, it is an achievement. It’s unknown to most how one gets on it, but making that list is an honor of a lifetime. It’s a position for which few will ever be even considered. In my competitive view, this concept parallels with Sir Lewis Hamilton being chosen to be one of the greatest sports dominators in history. He will forever hold more than the seven titles he’s won (and the eighth title he will win). Whether that eighth title comes in the form of his 2021 loss or the stewards, FIA and/or the men/man we can’t see deciding to make rules that are not only consistent but fair to all individuals alike, he will win. He will always win because he’s a winner. He has learned to fight his entire life against the odds to make things even.

What person in the public eye do you think belongs on “the list “?
