The art of design goes beyond its design.
My vision has never been based on the aesthetic of looks, but, rather, on the intricacies and small optimizations of well-defined infrastructure in terms of design. Just as a focus on process ultimately yields the big picture results of product and profit, a focus on infrastructure ultimately yields aesthetic design. Examples of this can be seen everywhere. Racing bicycles have narrow frames for aerodynamics, the utility of which begot a sleek appearance that is now ubiquitous in bicycle design. The demands of climate, energy consumption, and materials safety have influenced architectural design in ways that have and continue to change the definitions of modern aesthetics. User experience and the optimization thereof have driven the way contemporary websites and apps look and function. There is art for art’s sake, but when consumption is the end result I have found that the infrastructure of use and function are the most reliable drivers of design.
